Whitmar Publications Ltd (‘Whitmar’, ‘we’, ‘our’, ‘us’) wants to be completely transparent about why we need the personal details we request, and how we will use them.  This policy explains how Whitmar looks after your personal data in accordance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and also explains your rights.

Customers & Prospects

When you choose to utilise our services, such as buy event tickets, take up a reader offer, register to receive 1 or more of our printed materials, sign up to our regular newsletters, and/or enter one of our Competitions, we will ask for personal information about you, and hold this information to enable us to contact you and provide the requested service.  We may also receive your information following your attendance at an event or trade show where you indicated consent for your details to be passed to selected 3rd parties, of whom we are one.

The personal information we hold will include your name, e-mail address, postal address, telephone and/or mobile number, and the answers to our Controlled Circulation Questions specific to the magazine(s) you’ve requested to receive, alongside any specific requests you may have made, or details of events that you may have purchased tickets for or enquired about.

We want to respect your wishes and about how and when you hear from us.  At the time of supplying your data, you will have indicated your preferences as to how we contact you, as well as your preferences as to whether you wish to receive emails and/or post from carefully selected third party companies which contain targeted and relevant offers. This will be added to our database so that we can confirm and collect your consent to be contacted in the future. Please note, when we work with third party businesses as described, they provide the information to be distributed to contacts to Whitmar, and we dispatch it to you. They are not given access to your data at any point in this process.

If you are aged 16 or under, you will need to get the permission of your parent of guardian before registering to receive email newsletters, or any other materials, from us. We do not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under 16 or knowingly allow such persons to provide us with their personal information without parent or guardian consent.  In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from anybody aged 16 or under and do not have the consent of a parent of guardian, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.

We do not store credit or debit card details.

We will not share any of your personal details with any 3rd party companies for marketing purposes without collecting your explicit consent

Some of the information we ask for is to satisfy the needs of the Audit Bureau of Circulation Ltd (ABC). It is gathered to enable them to audit the accuracy of our data. Here is the link to ABC for information on their privacy notice: https://www.abc.org.uk/privacy-policy

It is possible we might have to disclose information to them for legal purposes.

The legal basis for processing your data is ‘legitimate interest’.  Whitmar benefit from registrations, subscriptions, advertising, and events ticket sales and would like you to order again.

We do not use your personal data for any automated decision making or profiling.

These will typically be served through our advertising partners who may have detailed privacy policies relating directly to the adverts they serve.  Clicking on any such adverts will send you to the advertiser’s website through a referral program which may use cookies to trace referrals from this website, and which may in turn be saved on your computer’s hard drive. We will continue contacting you after you have stopped being an active customer for a period of five years.  After this point we will either delete your data or keep it because you have asked us to.
